Laptop Suggestions

My brother is shopping for a decent laptop for about $1000. He doesn't need a gaming machine or anything fancy, just something that could run MS Office and do some image/video editing, play some DVD's. He was thinking of going Dell, but I was wondering if there was something better out there. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

our family runs with 'Toshiba Satelites' and the have been pretty good

Toshiba Satellite is good. I have an A70 which i got 6 months ago for $1350CAD. A little over $1000US.

check out the dell i6000, or go to pctorque, the 3790 is pretty good as well

Toshiba seems like a good laptop for what your doing

Usually I recomend averatec, but photo and video editing with the ram controller as well as a slower CPU is terrible. Alot lighter and better battery life than toshiba's though.
