Laptop powers on, but no display

Hi everybody,

I have received a Meccer(never heard about this brand before) laptop from South Africa as a present but when I tried plugging it in, there is no display.I can hear the fans working and the processor but there is no image.Furthermore South Africa uses 220v and I live in Canada which uses 110v, could this be the problem?Not enough juice?I also connected it to an external monitor but still no display. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could buy a power inverter and see if that works. You can get them from Radio Shack or The Source CC.
