I'm at work and I have a laptop that is maybe 5 months old. A colleague was working with it and shut it down normally. However, it won't boot up anymore. It is an HP Pavilion ze4500. As soon as the power button is pressed, everything turns on as normal, but the CPU fan and hard disk just cut out and the system doesn't boot up. Power remains to everything else. Any help?

Did you bang the laptop against anything that could have wiggled a connector loose, although it is unlikely. If you have a warranty on the thing take advantage of it. Maybe there was a power spike or surge.

Yeah, the laptop is under warranty, so I think we're going to trade it in. We were, however, able to remove the hard disk and get all the information off of it that we needed to get. Thanx for the help.
