A friend and I are planning on buying some laptops next year, and we need your opinion on which you think is the best out of the top brands under $1500 dollars?

I don't have exact specs, but out of brands only-

Dell

Comcrap... I mean Compaq :)

Gateway (to hell)

Sony

Toshiba

VPR Matrix

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Sony, I own a Vaio desktop now and it's great. My friend is thinking Dell. I don't have a problem with Dell, I just like Sony better.

Toshiba :)

I'm kind of a one-track mind though, becuase i've got a satellite 1805-S204, and i've never had a problem with it, even installing and confiugring Red Hat 9 :) :D

btw, i want one of the 12" vaio laptops....that's next on my "To get" list :)

PowerBook G4!

• 867MHz PowerPC G4
• 256MB DDR266 (128MB built-in & 128MB SO-DIMM)
• 40GB Ultra ATA drive
• Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
• Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• 12.1-inch TFT Display

Subtotal $1,399.00 (Educational Discount)

These specs are liable to change in the next few hours, though...since Steve Jobs' keynote starts in...eh...7 minutes ;)...

I've played with every one of those and Toshiba is by far the best. They are durable, have the best components, and have the most bang for your buck.

Stay far away from VPR Matrix. They're after sale support is horrid.
