Default Keyboard problem

I am building a new PC just for th fun of it.
CPU - Celeron
RAM 256
When I first conected all the components everything was working fine. Before I have intalled the OS I have disconected keyboard & Mouse to use on another PC to make a bootdisk. When I conected them back I mixed mouse with the keyboard ports(no big del right?). when i switched them back one pin in the mouse was broken but no pieces were stuck in the port. But the keyboard want work only locks lights flicker wether pc on or of the same for the mouse (optical, new) the optical light is always on. Whats wrong? how do I fix? Both pieces of equipment were tested on other PCs!?
