Default Issues with graphics and a MP-686ABX/S

Having some amusing problems trying to diagnose what on earth is going on with this computer.

Is running a MP-686ABX/S mobo with a PIII Slot 1 processor.

Seems to be running through POST without any problems and then as soon as windows or a live linux distro tries to load up the screen blanks out. I've replaced the PCI graphics card with a known working AGP card but to no avail.

It also has the small quirk that occasionally windows will say a file is corrupt and needs repairing but on the next restart all is well with the world!

I'm gussing that the mobo is shot, can anyone either confirm this or offer any other suggestions!

Many thanks!
