I just got all my parts together for replacing key parts in an old computer to help me build on some skills. I have the motherboard (Intel D865PERL), processor (P4), video card (256megs), RAM (1gig DIMM), and an aditional 45gig HD. And when I replaced everything I hit some problems...duh. The first being, the Power LED cable is one prong to big for the FP header. And i'm not really sure which side of the cables face in and out on the header. The second problem could be linked to the first, the monitor is working fine, but not showing the graphics. The last being, the CD drive is not opening or responding at all. Here is the layout of the board:

Thank you for any and all help :D

If I understand you correctly, the front panel power on LED connection has 3 pins and there is only a place for 2 pins on the board. Hope I got that right. My situation is the same, I just let the connection loose and don't have a powerup led!
I don't remember if perl has on board video or not but if so it should be disabled if your using a video board. What software system are you running?
How did you get a system up without a cd drive??? Tell us a little about your software setup.

I'll give you the full story then. I was a newbie to computers and I had just discoverd porn...maybe not that full. Um i'll start where I got my hands on an old computer and decided to completly rebuild the thing for the sake of learning about it. So I got a spare HD and installed XP on it before replacing alot of the key parts. And I messed around with it until I got some money to blow on parts. I bought them and attempted to install them. I got the MoBo/Processor, RAM, and video card in with out a problem. So I go to put the battery back in when I realized that I was one prong to big for the Pwr LED. I just put two on and tryed to turn in on. Everything worked but I didn't have a picture AT ALL, my towers fan didn't work, and my CD-ROM drive wasn't responding. Also I forgot to mention the on/off and other panel buttons don't work either. The only way to turn it off and on is to turn the battery off and on. All the parts are getting power or eles there fans wouldn't be running. One more thing i'll mention is i'm not fimilar with some of the hook ups shown on the MoBo layout map:

Code:
FP USB 2 HDR
1394 FP0
1394 FP1
FP Audio
CD In
Aux In
Rear Fan
Power 12V
VReg Van
BIOS Config

So I didn't plug anything into them.

I must admit to being a little lost as to your situation. First you cannot load a system onto a hard drive and and attach it to another motherboard. There are unique OS support modules determined during installation that are put on the HDD. I am sorry but I am unable to figure out the best approach, maybe someone will help out.
