The extremes have slightly higher clock speeds, which can be achieved through a simple overclock with non-extreme processors. Totally not worth the 200%+ increase in price they have, if you were thinking of purchasing one.

Extreme edition cpu's have unlocked multipliers which make them easier to overclock but it doesn't justify the price difference.

if your looking for a better boost in performance, dont think about the core 2 extremes, look at the i7 lineup. the cheaper 920 will outdo any chip in the core 2 lineup, including the extremes.

+1 to this, much better performance. Though RAM and mobo are quite expensive. Still, a whole i7 build can cost less than the 1,000+ top quad extreme.
