Can i install this into an oem Compaq computer. The SA4000T with the 915P chipset with PCI-Express. The mobo is made by asustek, model piranha serial number X312345678. THe bios is made by AMI. I talked with COMPAQ Instant support, and they said they were working on a bios update so the mobo would support the 6xx series. But since the 5xx series now has 64-bit, can i install that so i would have a 64-bit supported processor?

Sounds like a good question for the mobo manufacturer, as I doubt the HP/Compaq tech support would have any idea.

Actually not really. Both processors are not true 64-bit. They only emulate it. So it doesn't really matter.

dude, if you want a 64-bit CPU, go with AMD... intel sux at 64

Seriously, look at the actual question being asked. :(

Your 915 chipset should have no problem supporting that chip unless there is something funky going on because it is oem

Yes, the bios doesn't support the 6xx processors, or at least i don't think so. So can i buy a regualr 6xx series and stick it in?
