I am about to do an RMA on my motherboard. Do I need to install the socket protective cover to protect the pins? What if I sent in the mobo without the socket cover, would they not accept it? I have tried to install it but I can not get it to fit. No matter which way I had it, I could not come close to being able to shut it. I assume there is just one piece unless I lost the other piece.

I wouldn't worry about it. I sent several boards in for RMA, and I never did that. Never had a mishap with an RMA, neither.

edit: As long it's in that anti-static bag, I wouldn't worry about it.
