Increasing resolution

Dell Inspiron 1000 issue. Is there any plausible way to increase the resolution on my notebook from 1024x768 up to something higher? It would really be beneficial, however, whenever I go into control panel and go to raise it, it won't let me raise it. I can only lower it to 800x600, nothing lower nothing higher.

either your monitor and/or video card doesn't support any higher, or your drivers haven't got the modes
