I'm a n00b but still need help - Memory

Greetings:

Mobo: Assu A7N8x

Ok, so I uprgade from 512 to 1024 ddr memory for Half life 2, and turns out that my computer is now SLOWER that when I had the 512. I'm not talking about in game...I'm talking about startup, programs hanging all over the place, IE or Firefox taking 10 seconds to open etc. Can you please tell me why this might be happening?

Check your memory with memtest86+

also if the second memory stick you bought was lower speed then it will slow the other down the match automatically, so while you thought you were getting a good deal you were killing your performance, have you tried going back to the other RAM only to make sure that's the problem?
