I just built a new computer, using the primary IDE cable for a single harddrive, and the secondary for two cd-rom drives (burner and a dvd-rom). I want to buy a dvd-burner, and I really would like to keep my other drives connected too. Would placing the dvd-burner on the primary slave connection work and/or interfere with the performance and accessibility of my harddrive?

seems to me i tried to hook up a burner on the same IDE cable as my HD and it DID NOT work........

no it wont, attach to it without any worry.

if i were u, i would only have used DVD-R/RW. save power as well. although I am using DVD-R with DVD-ROM.

It must be possible, because at one point I had a cdrom, a dvd rom, and a burner all running at the same time along with my 60gig hardrive. I don't know how it worked because I didn't build machine.
