Default i.d.e drive upgrade

hi there.have a theoretical question that i have encountered that i need answering.
if there was an older computer with a single i.d.e interface, and my computer already had a master hdd and a slave hdd,how would i go about installing another hdd?
the question has four choices,
configure the new drive as i.d.e slave
disable the first disk drive
install a scsi host adapter
install i/o expansion card with i.d.e interface
two choices need to be selected.i am pretty certain it cant be the first as a single interface will not support more than two i.d.e devices.the second is a possible alternative, but i was thinking towards the scsi device too.my answer would be the 2nd and 3rd,but i am not totally sure!any ideas or feedback on this??
