So my guess is the cpu is fried then? I also noticed some slight discoloration on the cpu core when I reapplied the arctic silver 5 the second time. It was like a portion of it was a little more darker but only slightly.

It's not easy to tell (accurately) without being able to see the CPU. But it sounds like it may have been damaged from too much heat stress.

Wish I had another processor to try it out. It would be my guess though since it worked before I applied the thermal compound.

Ok will take some pictures when I get the arctic silver cleaned off of it. Hopefully my palm's pictures are good enough quality.

Could not get a close up on the CPU, could not get good focus up close.

The first couple of shots are with the arctic silver still on the heat sink and the CPU.

Both the heatsink and the cpu had a bare spot or very thin area of arctic silver that isn't even with the rest of it(can't see it on the heatsinkfrom bad lighting, it's the light spot) but was or seemed to be coated over and even when I applied it.
