Default HTPC stuff

So I've been given an old (XP SP1 age) HTPC-esque computer, just wondering what interesting stuff I can do with it?
I'm probably gonna stick XP SP3 and Ubuntu 9.1 on it, have a mess around with those.

Funny thing is, this has less power than my netbook:
netbook - 1.33GHz, 2GB DDR2
HTPC - unsure atm, 512MB DDR

Desktop i5-4440 - ASRock Z77 Extreme4 - EVGA GTX970 - 4x4GB 1600MHz - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB - Be Silent Base 800 - 3TB+1TB+640GB
Laptop i7-3740QM @ 2.7GHz, 2x4GB 1600Mhz, GT640M, OCZ Agility 3 120GB
Smartphone HTC One M8 - Sense 7 - 6.0

It's if it's powerful enough turn it into a HTPC. Should be no problem if you have a TV that accepts VGA, otherwise that board would probably have an AGP slot and you could find a card that has either a HDMI, DVI, composite, SVideo or component output.
