HP recovery disk

Has anyone experienced a problem with HP Recovery Disks after changing the original HDD on a HP computer?
The Recovery Disk boots up but only to a screen saying "you must set an active DOS partition" which has been done.
Installing Win98Se from an alternative disk is no problem, but we miss out on all the drivers and software on the HP disk.
Any solutions?

Thankyou for that....HP 's site only offers us a Bios update no software or drivers...I'm thinking I can reinstall the original HDD just for the operating system so I can get all the software and drivers back...and install newer HDD as a slave.
