HP Printers, How to Force Black / White only

I have a HP OfficeJet (all-in-one) 7100.
The color catridge is out (and don't need color printing)... HOWEVER the stupid thing willl not let me print at ALL.

Even if I tell it to print in black only (via printing setting)... the stupid printer flashes (Replace Color)... blah blalh balh...

So, anyone know how to over ride the printer to allow me to print even when the color is out?

NOTE:
1) if I remove the color catridge, it will not print... says... replace color

2) I went through all printer settings ON the printer... found nothing about disabling color settins, etc.

PS. I read something about hacking the printer, to manually setting it to MONO for the color setting... something about drivers,firmware, etc..... but I haven't a clue where to start on that???

In print hit properties then hit print like everything in b/w or w/e

doesn't work...

the HP printer displays:
"Supply Expired. Replace Color Ink Cartridge."
