Question how to use new monitor with old computer

My dad brought an old computer home from work the other day and I'm having trouble getting it pluged into my monitor. The computer has a 25 pin female port on it, and it also came with a 25pin male to 9 pin
male. My monitor has a 15 pin male vga cable coming out of it, so i need to find a cable that will convert either 9 pin or 25 pin to a 15 pin female port. Will this even work if i find the part? Would it be easier to just find an old monitor? Or do any of you know where i can find the part i need?
