Are your trying to build your own scanner, or are you trying to replace something?

No, this is for a work for school, its a work that has to be finished at the end of the year, and it must contain 30 pages with technical information.
I just went to the library, and couldnt find anything regarding this, so all that i need will come from the web.
Since this is my final year in highschool, this work determines wether i pass or not (it is at 1000 points), so it must be very good, so im trying to gather as much info as i can....

I don't think I can help you, I don't know anything about scanners. You have to try google.

Good luck!
