Default How Much Thermal Compound?

What is the correct amount of heatsink compound I should use between the waterblock on my watercooling system and my processor? I have a Pentium 4 Skt.478 and have some Arctic Silver compound.

When applying thermal compound to my cpu, I placed an amount the size of a grain of rice. Then I used a credit card to evenly distribute it, and take the extra off.

Just enough to cover up the color and provide good heat transfer.
