Default How to make my system LAN able

I wanted to lan with a few of my friends but they said somthing about a network card which I have no idea about. What kind should I get?? Also how much do these things usually run

Anywhere from $3-$25 or so on newegg depending on the brand

A+, Network + , HP Certified Tech and MCP

They are cheap and if you are running XP you won't have to do to much but install the card. Is your computer to be the primary or were you planning on networking with another? Basically, if you are going into an outside network you just need to connect your NIC card and cable to a Hub on the network and you are ready to go!
