how far can i send a wireless signal?

hey guys i live on a small acreage, i have high speed internet, now my neibour ( a good friend of mine) lives about 500ft away it it possable to get a wireless router to send a signal that far?

well i currently have a cheapo dlink one, but my neibour says he will invest in a good one if i can be sure it will work.

you may have to invest also in a few better wireless cards but other than this should suite you. dont just take my word on it though go to www.cnet.com and look it up and see what they say
