how to enable 2nd IDE channel?

My new laptop cdrw drive doesn't work; I hope to enable a second IDEchannel in the BIOS but there seems to be no obvious option.

Any ideas? :beard:

Maybe I should just stay out of this because I have limited laptop hardware config knowledge...but......Do you have master and slave postions on the existing ide cable? Is it a single ribbon? is there room for two cdrom/rw's or are you subing one new cdrom for the older one????? You probably need to update the drivers for the new cdrom if it is a replacement/upgrade drive in the add hardware seciton of you system/device manager. Hope I helped and not confused!!
