Default How do Discrete Graphics REALLY work?

I've searched on the internet, but I've come up only with either useless articles or articles that mention "discrete graphics" in passing. Could you please tell me how discrete graphics are different from shared graphics? As far as I know it, it's like a hybrid between shared and dedicated...

I think discrete means on board graphics.

Whats the difference then between discrete and dedicated if they're both onboard? Different speeds?

no, id imagine discrete is onboard, but dedicated means you have a graphics card. you dont describe it as onboard as its not part of the motherboard
