Default How to dispense of old CRT monitors?

I have three CRT monitors. 1 of them is completely dead. 1 of them partially works. And 1 of them works great.

I don't want to just trash them the ones that work. What should I do?

Trash? Donate? Sell?

Thanks

You can call up your city town hall and ask them. There's places that take donations, as well as broken parts.

Don't trash them, they have mercury in them which is harmful to the environment. Check locally to see if anyone recycles them (very few companies do, but they are out there).

You can open them up and take the copper out that is on the back and get a little spending money from it.

Uh-oh. Is it inside the tube because I have broken a couple of the actual tubes and didn't know about the mercury?

I know our local best buy here takes in disposable equipment, closer for me than driving to town.

They contain lead, phosphorous, mercury and barium, which are poisonous.

Are the chemicals inside the tube though?

In my town, Goodwill has a computer hardware recycling program. They take hardware that's working or not. Check with your local Goodwill.
