Hope you aren't trying to hide anything (like privacy, porn, credit card numbers, etc). There are a number of freeware tools that will extract the data from a reformated, repartitioned, and damaged drives.

Open the HD up and use some windex on the platters. Works great every time.

Actually, yes, it did. But I had a hell of a time in the meantime cause I was trying to save info prior to wiping the drive and not knowing what was infected made it hard as HELL! I had to scan every single file I transfered off that computer before I wiped it clean. And I LOST some critical/irreplacable media such as family photos and genealogical stuff cause I couldn't save it on a cd or transfer it to my husband's computer. We didn't have a dvd burner at the time. Liz

yes using powermax or PM is the best way to get a boot sector virus off

I tryed useing the software that came with my maxtor... i gave up 30 min into it... and southernlady im guessing ill call ya liz :-p make a back up of all your data like that atleast once in a while... i backup all my pics/vids/downloads and school work every 2 months... God that turns into a big mess when you dont organize the files....
