I have an old emachines that my mom wants me to give to my grandpa, so I'm planning to save my mp3's to CD's and basically get rid of everything else. It would seem to me that I would completely clear out the hard drive, and then reinstall windows. I was able to find the windows cd laying around, but how would I go about completely cleaning off the hard drive?

make your CD rom the first boot device in the Bios. then start it up with the windows CD in it, and just select wat u wont to do and it'l reformat the HD during clean install.

yes, it should be called the boot sequence which is standardly set as the floppy first then hard drive or floppy>cd>hard drive. On mine I had to actually make boot floppies cuz my cd wasn't bootable (errrr, yes it was a copy....guilty as charged) *shrugs*

Ok so here's my plan of action:

(1) Save old mp3's to a CD
(2) Go into BIOS, set the boot order as CD-ROM, then floppy, then hard drive.
(3) Go through the reinstall procedure for windows as normal.
(4) Go back into BIOS and change the order to hard drive, then CD-ROM, then floppy.

Will that work?
