How can I clean my CD drive?

Hey, I was just wondering, how can I clean my CD drive? I know I could use one of those CD drive cleaner disks, but is there a (free) alternative?

Well, apart from cleaning your Drive with a CD, you can do a manual clean.
IF your warranty is over,and you wud like to take the risk, i suggest you to open the casing in a dust free environment and clean the drive with a soft cloth. I have done like this lot of times with my DVD -ROM drive

i think its quite risky i would not do it without a disk.

REASON > if you get the lense of the laser scratched then you can kiss your drive good bye as your drive will not be able to read the pits and lands on the surface of the disk correctly and so your drive will be worthless.

but if you are carefull and you know what you are doing; GO AHEAD!

AS I SAY IN TERMS OF HARDDRIVES AND CD-DRIVES > if it aint broke dont fix it.
