Ambient noise when recording

When recording on my soundcard (I am using an auxiliary soundcard apart from my main system card), I recieve a slight hiss that appears to resemble that of a "noise gate".

I need to know how to get rid of this hissing sound. I know its not my input because I took off all connections and still get the hiss when recording.

your fans put out electromagnetic 'noise' which could be causing the hiss.....maybe.....*shrugs*

What type of sound cards are they? Its best to move your microphone in another quite room to do your recording.
This will help eliminate unwanted sounds .Condesent mics are very sensitive . If your recording from a tape player the condesent mic will pick up the sound of the tape drive motor .Your better off putting only the speaker and the mic in the quite room.
The quite room will give you the best results if your recording your own voice or instruments.Good luck
