Help me out pls

Hello,
well today i found my brothers old pc, it broke down maybe a year ago, they said that the hard drive was completely dead.

I tried using a boot disk to get to BIOS settings or anything, but it won't work. It just turns on and starts humming and that's it, nothing on the screen.

Is it possible to salvage this computer or what?

it's a compaq with older athlon processor, and windows ME.
My bro bought it at a compusmart for 1000$ in 1999
i remeber telling him it sucked, the hard disk was 10gb or something plus the processor was on the low end.

If i just threw in a new hard disk would it work again, or is that just wishful thinking

Naah you can get into the BIOS without a HD]

Try clearning the CMOS, you can do this by pulling out the battery for 15 min

You'd be better off taking out the drive, putting it in a functioning PC as a slave and then try to recover the data with software.

A friend told me it might be a RAM problem, either it's not connected or just broken.
I guess i'm better off finding a working PC and playing mix and match with the hardware.

but i'll try the battery first thanks
