No, it basicly means what P4 speeds it's supposed to compete with..... The 2800+ vs. 2.8ghz P4, 3200+ vs. 3.2ghz P4, etc.

Once you get below 2.8ghz on the P4's then it's better to go with an Athlon XP

Maybe this link can help you to understand the AMD cores better.

I would be unable to teach you about the different cores because i don't know much about it myself.
