hey just have a quick question.

i have an older 7200rpm drive. it has that loud whirring noise that older drives had, i was wondering if theres a way to make that quieter

either your hdd is dieing, it is rattling agaist the case so tighten it. Backup ASAP just in case it die's on you.

When drives make that sound its an indication that they are on there way out within 6 months. do what wayne has advised!

my Maxtor makes a bit of noise but only when it reads off the disk. But the i cant hear the spinning disks over the noise of the fans.

Could Be Just the Drive

Some brands of HDD are just plain noisy. To be safe, back up your data and wait it out. If it wasn't like that when you started, your best bet is to get a new HDD.

Good Luck
