Default HDD/mouse problem

Today i put a 200gb hard drive into my brother's Compaq from about 2 years ago. Everything went fairly smoothly and (after figuring out compaq's weird HD instal system) i finally got the HD into position and plugged in. Turned the computer on and everything booted up normally until i found out that the mouse is not working. I plugged it in correctly and everything but for some reason i cant move the mouse. I checked the mouse on my computer and it works fine. What could be wrong?
