Default hdd or mobo problem

my mobo doesnt recognise my maxtor 120gb hdd!!!!!
help please
i am using my computer by using no hdd and using knoppix bootable cd linux

has it been working then just stopped or has it ever worked? Check the jumpers and make sure hdd is set correctly. also make sure your ide cables are not backwards.

good question. is this a new hard disk you are putting in or did it just stop working?

Hdd is dead/isnt plugged in right.

Mobo might not detect it! not that sure, need a bit more info!

its all plugged in fine, doesnt recognise it, i checked it in bios, and it says nothing is there but when it is plugged in as primary master, ive used it for a while and ive had a few other problems (check my other posts a few days back)

Are you using the cable that came with the drive with the black end and what else is on that cable

so it works when set as primary master, but not as slave... is this a SATA drive? if so thats why.

it doesnt work on primary master or slave, its a ATA 133 drive not sata, its not recognised anywhare.
