Hdd just R.I.P.ed

I was using a Maxtor 120gb DiamondMax Plus 9 IDE internal hard drive perfectly and then yesterday it just stopped working. I didn't change anything and nothing (that I know of) triggered this problem. It is out of warranty (expired end of 2004) but when I try it in my computer either on its own or with another master drive I can feel the hard drive power up and spin but it just doesn't detect it. When I have both my defective hdd and my working one connected up in my computer (both used to work fine like this before) my system just hangs at startup? Any clues?

Ah technology these days, just doesn't last. I have some hard drives that must be 13 years old now, and they've been running pretty much every weekday all that time.

Have you tried the drive in another computer?
