hmm i probably shouldn't be starting so many threads.. but since the topics are all diff.. what the hey!

ok im trying to build my own comp.. and i want to get best mobo/cpu/vid card for my budget for playing games.

to get good stuff, i've decided not to buy an HDD and just get any old one i have lying around... only problem is that its only 5400rpm..

will that make a significant difference in computer performance? should i sacrfice cpu/vid card quality for a better hard drive? or should i stick to an old beater? don't worry about long life/ risk of losing data...

thx for help.

well the hdd is the slowest component in the system. It wont slow down games but it will slow down loading times. You could start with the old hdd and upgrade later. When i first got my Athlon XP system i ran it with my 4200rpm 10gb HDD for a while before i upgraded to my 120gb 7200rpm Maxtor.

alright thats a relief... i'll use an old one for now, this way i can spend the money where it needs to be spent, video card!

thx
