Have Canadian Notebook, moving to Europe -- question about adapter

I have a Canadian Dell Inspiron 1300 and it came with an adapter and a plug, but now I'm moving to Europe -- France.

I read about just putting an attachment on the end of the plug, but I'm worried about ruining my computer if the voltage doesn't match up.

What do I have to do? Do I need to purchase a new AC adapter? Or do I, in fact, have to only buy an attachment so my current plug fits into a European plug and the little box on my cord will take care of it?

it depends on voltage. i'm not sure what voltage is used for Canada's mains electricity. as far as i know most of the world except the US use 240v AC. if Canada uses 240v the adapter should be fine in most countries as long as you have an adapter for the socket. just be sure the voltage is the same.

Canada uses NEMA 5-15 North American 15 Amp/125 Volt socket.
