The Computer Guy at my school was throwing out a whole bunch of computers and parts today, this is what i got:

1x 10mbit 8 port Hub
1x Optical Mouse
1x PS2 Mouse
3x Serial Mice
8x P1 Whole Systems from 100mhz to 233mhz.

I know its old but my friend and i are sharing the systems but its a bit of a haul.

Im planning to put all the best stuff into 1 or 2 computers (like ram and hdd and cpu.

233MHz = P2

Sounds like you've got the makings of a bunch of servers...

233 was Original Pentium, 266 was P2.

Thats right. A lot of Linux servers.

The Hub connects to my current switch to give me an extra 7 ports on my network.

I still dont use hub's on my network due to their speed.

All together, including port's used for links, I have 28 ports, 1x16 backbone switch, and 1x4 ports on the backbone router, and 1x4 ports on the WAP and 1x4 ports on a switch for another room.

I do use hubs on my network because of their freeness :p .

In this case my 5 port switch runs fine @ 100mbit and my 10mbit hub runs fine @ 10mbit. So i can have some computers on the high speed part of the network while other things that dont need as much bandwidth on the slower speeds.

Anyway, LAN CS doesnt need much bandwidth.

ok, i see whats happening.

P2-Celerons started @ 266mhz
P2 started @ 233mhz.

I got one of the systems and pimped it out! 128mb Ram, and a 4gb HDD and a 100mbit NIC!!!

Sort of like pimping out an Escort.

No matter how much chrome, how big the speakers, how nice the paint job... it's still an Escort.

But, free is free.
