Default hardware problems

hey, um yesterday i tried to play a song but the sound was all messed up. I like rock and all i heard was the guitar not the voice and in counter strike the sound is like weird and unatural. I tried reinstalling the dirvers but it is still there. Also i am using the K8V onboard sound from my mobo. I think it could be a problem with my settings though cuz on media player i changed the balance a litte and the sound was okay, but then when i closed it the sound was bad again. I dont know where to go and find the sound options either.
