I noticed something and I will use AMD as an example tere is a Thorton core same as a Barton but with 256k cache disabled. Why would you make the same thing but sell one 4 cheaper with the cache still there but disabled,it cost the same to produce it too.Well there is a cheap way to activate this hidden bonus for people with the cheaper core. http://www.modfatha.com/ma_thorton_turns_barton.html
there is others for different proccesors so look around.

Here is another intel had Hyper threading since the P3 coppermine core
Hyperthreading is no cutting edge technology however. On the contrary, according to several references Hyperthreading has been around in Intel CPUs, locked away ready to strike, since way back to the days of the Pentium III Coppermine. Intel, in there infinite wisdom, probably chose to keep it put away seeing that not many applications gave support for hyperthreading at the time.
that was taken from http://www.modfatha.com/ma_dual_processing.html
