Default Harddrive Help

Hey Everyone !!!! umm...I have some harddrive problems im sorta new to the computor world so dont flame me for this.
Ok. Im probobly going to get a new harddrive but all my files are one the C:\Drive so holy crap I have so much stuff on it That I dont want to lose and my parents dont want to lose so how do i keep them?

Back it up on another computer or hook another h.d.d. up. Basically select all the files you want and drag them to your destination.

Get the new harddrive ... Connect the current harddriveas a slave ... Install an OS on New harddrive .. then move all ur data into the new drive

or just burn it to a whole bunch of cd's. not recommended, but back up only stuff you need... dont need to keep installers and stuff you can download again

Yeah but um...I have really important files that i dont want to lose like since i have a 56k dial up how do i not lose that and my dad dose his buisness on the computors so how do i back those word and excell files up? and more stuff like that?
