Hard drive not getting picked up why?

Hi i've got a platinum external harddrive here, i've plugged it in and the status on it is green which is obviously good. but my dell, windows 7 laptop is not picking it up at all. Any ideas why please?

Go into Control Panel - Administration Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.

On the lower pane, do you see your drive? If so, you may just need to change the letter. Right click on the drive letter area.
