Did you install the driver for the controller?

Did you go into computer management and create the partition & format it?

i pressed F6 and put in the one called WinXP 571/then a few more numbers, but still isn't working. CD rom is hooked up to IDE 2 if that matters. must i change something in BIOS?

I had this problem... Your motherboard does not come with a built in sata driver... soooo it should have come with a diskette and when windows xp is booting press F6 for 3rd party drivers and insert your disk and load the sata drivers and install windows after that windows... and make sure that your bios is setup to boot from a sata not ide.. some bios are not that smart. Also if you are really having trouble, you can install on a IDE and simply ghost over all your stuff to your SATA after you install SATA drivers in windows xp.
