I tried putting in my old hard drive into my new one as a secondary. i couldn't set the jumpers because i dont have the piece.

so what can i do now? do i have to buy a new hard drive and install that instead?

You should have EIDE which does not require the jumpers. The end plug is the primary.

You dont need to buy a whole new hdd, ask the store for a jumper for the hdd, they'll probably give you one for free.
