Default good dvd drive

What's a good Dvd drive out there. The one that came with my PC just died. Oh I have a sony vaio and when I bought it the guy said that If any of the cd drives break, I'd have to get em straight from sony, so I was wondering if that was true or would any cd drive work.

Any drive should work...Do you want a dvd burner, combo drive or just cd-rom?
