here are the parts im kinda thinkin of considering... IF I WERE TO BUILD MY OWN COMP

-AMD 64 3400* 754 $279.97
-RADEON 9550 256M $119.97
-512M SDRAM PC133* DIMM $109.97 (is this the best type of ram?)
-DLINK 10/100 NIC PCI $14.97(decent card?)
-Im gonna salvage my hp dvd+-rw offa my mdg
-160G WEST. DIG. 8MB 7200 $109.97
- What kind of motherboard do I need... or what would you guys recommend
- TOTAL COST : $634.85 w/o taxes, w/taxes $730

So yea, what am I missing... and what are some of youre recommendations?

I still have to look at cases and decide wether or not I want a floppy drive. Thanks guys keep posting

EDIT heres the case i might consider...
CHENMING 601 NOPS $99.97
do they come with power supply, fans, cables, or is some of that stuff included or separte.

Those are not Canadian prices. If they are where are you shopping?

EDIT: I take that back I thought you said 9800 pro for $119.

The parts sound good but get better RAM like DDR PC3200. SDRAM is horrible IMO. Everything else looks fine. I prefer ASUS mobos but you can get anyone that will fit that processor. Keep in mind the socket though. Good luck on building your PC.

so ddr ram eh? ya i though ... well i knew there was a better kinda ram... just couldnt remember I'm lookin at these prices on www.computercenter.com and doe s the socket of the cpu have to match the motherboard?

Could somebody go through the main points about power and cooling? thanks

If you're going with a 64 bit proccesor, I cannot stress enough that you should go with a 939 socket as opposed to a 754, a bit more expensive perhaps, but it has far better performance and leaves the door open for upgrades in the future.

Also, even if you aren't comfortable building your own computer, for a small fee you can pick out your parts and have someone working at the store do it for you.

I thought that the socket of the cpu had to match the soclet of the motherboard.
