Default Geforce Fx5600 Trouble

I brought a new Geforce Fx5600 for gaming and installed it and the latest drivers. When I try to play a game it freezes during cutscences or at menus ( where u select singleplayer, multiplayer, options, etc.) Does anyone know how to fix this?

First possibility: Too Hot inside, the Video card is experiencing heatstroke.

2nd possibility: Your RAM just got hurt by static.

When you say "it's on 256" you don't mean graphics apperture?

This option should be set to either 64mb or 128mb, with your video-card and your amount of RAM, for best performance.

Sorry for mentioning this if it's not true -- I don't mean any disrespect, but it's a common misconception..

Did you try reinstalling the OS?
That way you'll know if it's a hardware or software issue.
