Why are the price difference between the socket 939 and 940s so huge. I know 939s support dual and 940s don't but other then that is there any difference?

like the price for socket 939 and 750 aren't different for 3000s and 3200s.

940 supports ECC memory, 939 doesn't. 940 is a server socket, ECC memory is slower than non-ECC memory. Get a 939 if you are a gamer.

socket 940 only supports ECC memory, I believe socket 939 does support it, but you have the option of not using it, and most people don't
socket 940 was designed for the Opteron processors, and is AMD's only socket which is used in dual boards appart from socket A, but that's an older socket
and like I posted to Harper, socket 754 is the earlier socket, doesn't support dual channel RAM and has a 1.6GHZ FSB, while socket 939 has a 2GHZ FSB and does support socket 939
