the hight picthed noise could be many things. like above, the heads sticking although those usually make a thunk noise (like the ol' floppy disks), if a bearing is going out it could make a squeal or a chirping noise and also a grrrr noise so this makes it hard to find sometimes. Do you have any HDD health programs installed?
